WANTED MAN DANNY FERGUSON RELATING TO DEATH AT OODNADATTA

5-July-Danny-FergusonPolice are seeking public assistance to help locate 35-year-old man Danny Ferguson.

Ferguson is wanted for questioning following the suspicious death of a woman at Oodnadatta on Friday 3 July.

He was last seen on foot at Alberga Creek on the Finke Track approximately 50km north of Oodnadatta and police believe that he may attempt to travel to Finke in the Northern Territory. Continue reading

Police are searching scrubland for a man following the death of a woman at Oodnadatta on Friday.

At 3.30pm on Friday 3 July a 34-year-old woman from Oodnadatta was taken to the Oodnadatta clinic by three people who are known to police. At the time the woman was unresponsive and died a short time later. Continue reading

Adam Plate, owner of Oodnadatta Pink Roadhouse killed in tragic rally accident on Friday

The tragic death of Oodnadatta Pink Roadhouse owner Adam Plate at the Targa Adelaide Championship Rally on Friday 24 August has numbed the outback town of Coober Pedy and local pastoral districts.

The many pastoral families and remote town’s folk who have known Adam since he arrived at Oodnadatta in 1974 with his then girlfriend Lynnie Trevillian, are still coming to grips with the loss of their outback icon. 

When news of the shocking accident reached the Far North on Friday, Mayor Steve Baines of Coober Pedy turned his thoughts immediately to the Plate family. 

“On behalf of the residents of Coober Pedy I extend my condolences to Lynnie and the family. Our thoughts are with you all at this very sad time.”

“Adam was a true outback legend who stood up for what he believed in and Outback South Australia is a better place because of him”, said Mayor Baines. Continue reading

Adam Plate of Oodnadatta Traders (Pink Roadhouse Oodnadatta), a general outback business employing up to 12 people, this week expressed dismay at the electricity price rises which he said will be “much greater than suggested”. 

Adam Plate said he heard Energy Minister Hon Michael O’Brien on radio suggesting that living in the outback was ‘lifestyle choice’, “which implied to me that if we didn’t like it we could pack up and leave”,  he said. Continue reading

WILLIAM CREEK & OODNADATTA HOST STRANDED TOURISTS AFTER HEAVY RAINS

Between 80 – 100 travellers are currently stranded at William Creek event after torrential rains engulfed the far north over the past 24 hours.

Some of the stranded include visitors who travelled for the district’s annual Bronco Branding event over the weekend.

A further 30 – 40 travellers are holding up at the Pink Roadhouse in Oodnadatta where rain fell heavily in the region. Continue reading

MARLA-BORE HORSE TAKES HOME 120th CUP AT OODNADATTA

16 year old Marla/Mintabie schoolgirl, Daisian Taylor wins place at Bart Cummins and Gaye Waterhouse Equestrian School after local race   

The Oodnadatta-Oz Minerals Cup this year was named in honour of past President Ron Napier, who managed Allandale Station.    

Presenters of the Ron Napier Memorial Cup at Oodnadatta are Ron Napier’s children, Greg, Andrew and Tracey Napier with Jockey Helen Gow and Beccy. Centre are Peygronic’s owners and trainers from Marla, Ronald Boland with Peygronic and Daisian holding the winning Cup in front, with Mum Colleen, Natrell and Kelly

Ron passed away earlier in the year, and his children, Greg, Kenny and Tracy Hayes  were on hand to present the Cup to Ronald Boland and family, after their horse Peygronic won the Oodnadatta Cup ridden by jockey Helen Gow.  Continue reading
