DECS TO APPOINT NEW PRINCIPAL TO COOBER PEDY AREA SCHOOL

Chris Robinson, Chief Executive of the Department of Education and Children’s Service has issued the following advice for the Coober Pedy community including parents and caregivers regarding resolutions relating to issues at the Coober Pedy Area School.

JAY WEATHERILL TO RESOLVE COOBER PEDY SCHOOL ISSUES SOON

South Australia's Minister for Education Jay Weatherill MP

On Thursday 1 July 2010, Education Minister Jay Weatherill met in Adelaide with local MP Lyn Breuer, Mayor Steve Baines and Coober Pedy Area School Governing Council chair Alex Lalic.
 
The meeting was to discuss progress on a resolution to the  school securing a permanent principal, previously expected to occur at the conclusion of the first term in 2010.
 
“They made very clear the community’s need for certainty to be restored to the school as soon as possible,” Minister Weatherill said. Continue reading

COOBER PEDY AREA SCHOOL STUDENTS – POWER CUP LAUNCH AT MUD HUT MOTEL

The local Aboriginal kids in the South Australian Aboriginal Sports Training Academy (SAASTA) held a Power Cup launch on Wednesday the 10th of March at the Mud Hut Motel.

Parents and community members were invited to come along to meet the team and mentors who will be going to the Aboriginal Power Cup.

The coach of local team The Coober Pedy Saints, Carmello Crisa was the guest speaker and had the students, parents and community members hanging on to every word of his inspiring speech. Continue reading

On Tuesday the 24th of November 2009, Coober Pedy Area School held their annual presentation day. The ceremony is an acknowledgement of the achievements the school, the students and involved community members have accomplished throughout the year.

*The Year 2/3 students gave us a sneak peak of their musical.
*The choir gave us a brilliant performance.

July 2009:
• 12th – The third term school Busy Bee was held. Tasks completed included
o Pruning, reticulation and mulching of the front garden beds.
o Reticulation of the newly constructed Kitchen Garden beds at the rear of the school.
o Continued grounds clean up.

COOBER PEDY AREA SCHOOL STUDENTS ENCOURAGED BY REGIONAL VOLLEYBALL SUCCESS

Coober Pedy Area School girls - winning volleyball team

In week 6 of term 3, fourteen Coober Pedy Area School students travelled to Whyalla to compete in the regional Volleyball tournament.  Host school, Stuart High arranged for the students to stay in the school library to sleep over and rest up for heats the following day.

The Volleyball tournament was held on the Thursday with each of the teams playing the two opposing teams in the heats in their pool.

The Coober Pedy boys lost their first game 2-1 to Whyalla High, and lost their second game 2-1 to Samaritan College.  However Coober Pedy boys won their play off for 5th against Port Augusta High 3-0. Continue reading
