The Shift: Winds will blow firmly from the southeast on Saturday evening, gradually clocking around to the east overnight, and firmly establishing from the northeast by Sunday morning.
Peak Winds: The strongest sustained winds and gusts are expected during Sunday mid-to-late morning, hovering around 22–23 mph with gusts pushing higher.
Coober Pedy Fire Crew: Ann Gerschwitz, Captain; Phil Gerschwitz, 2nd Lieutenant; Rajith Bandara, Senior Firefighter; Jesse Manfred, firefighter; and Donna Ikin, Support and Logistics Coordinator, all attended the fire. The fire took multiple truckloads of water to get under control, with more truckloads on the smouldering tyres and other parts, making sure it didn’t reignite. 12 hours on and the brigade, police and fire investigators were still at the scene. 15.5 hours later, we finished refilling trucks, and we’re ready to be on standby.
We thank Nick Brellis from the Council Works Department who brought over a front-end loader to assist with pulling down the fence and smothering tyres and other rubble, to assist us
We are very thankful and appreciative to Mark Hoad, Mine Rescue/SES Captain and other MR/SES volunteers, as well as SAPOL and SAAS, for their ongoing assistance at scenes when required.
