MARLA-BORE HORSE TAKES HOME 120th CUP AT OODNADATTA

16 year old Marla/Mintabie schoolgirl, Daisian Taylor wins place at Bart Cummins and Gaye Waterhouse Equestrian School after local race

The Oodnadatta-Oz Minerals Cup this year was named in honour of past President Ron Napier, who managed Allandale Station.

Presenters of the Ron Napier Memorial Cup at Oodnadatta are Ron Napier’s children, Greg, Andrew and Tracey Napier with Jockey Helen Gow and Beccy. Centre are Peygronic’s owners and trainers from Marla, Ronald Boland with Peygronic and Daisian holding the winning Cup in front, with Mum Colleen, Natrell and Kelly

Ron passed away earlier in the year, and his children, Greg, Kenny and Tracy Hayes  were on hand to present the Cup to Ronald Boland and family, after their horse Peygronic won the Oodnadatta Cup ridden by jockey Helen Gow.

Owners of Peygronic are Ronald Boland, Colleen and Daisian Taylor.

“Daisian Taylor who is only 16 trained Peygronic for three months,  getting up every morning before sunrise and riding him for 5 – 6 km before returning to get ready to go to school at Mintabie”, said Ronald Boland step-dad to Daisian, who took her under his wing to teach and guide her right through to the big race at Oodnadatta.

“Daisian track rode and trial galloped Peygronic to get ready for the big one mile race. This would make her the youngest trainer”, said a very proud Ronald Boland.

A week prior to the race, Anna Lennon from Oodnadatta organised for Daisian to go to the Bart Cummins and Gaye Waterhouse equestrian school in Sydney where budding young horse enthusiasts are taught skills in race horse training, jockey or stable hand work,” Ronald told us.

Daisian will be going to Sydney for 2 years and after passing a 4 week course will become an apprentice jockey for 4 years.

“A very big thank you must go to John Peacock, a registered racehorse trainer who gave us  Peygronic and to Greg, Andrew and Tracey Napier for presenting the Ron Napier Memorial Cup”, said a very excited Ronald Boland, on behalf of his family.
