BIGGEST CUPPA TEA FOR COOBER PEDY LOCALS

A highlight of the Big Cuppa is the Big Auction. Trevor McLeod is faced with describing the next item to the bidders

Local Coober Pedy residents have been busy with their annual “spring clean”, loading unused treasures into boxes for the BIG CUPPA TEA and BIG auction on Saturday 29 May, clearing out all those much loved but sadly, unused space hogging items.

Auction shoppers will be hoping to find exciting new bargains by doing their Christmas shopping early at the Big Cuppa Tea and raise funds for cancer research at the same time.

Local ladies had no problems recognising the item and bid enthusiastically

The food at the Big Cuppa Tea is always a calorie feast with Prospect Cheesecake Shop previously organising the transportation of the goodies to Coober Pedy.  Members of the community bake and bring a variety of delicious plates on the day.

“To all those people of Coober Pedy who make Biggest Afternoon Tea so successful – please take a bow!   Last year we managed to raise a staggering $5031.15 – not bad for a small community”. said Kate McLeod, one of the organisers.

Carrie Rainsford does a hard sell on a top brand flagon of Olive Oil

Carrie Rainsford and Trevor McLeod, have been the auctioneers for the past few years, selling off almost anything that will raise a few extra dollars for the cause.  Local community members leaving town have often donated most of their surplus household goods to the Auction.

This year the Big Cuppa Tea is Saturday 29 May 2010 and will be held at the Italian Club between 2 – 5 pm. Local residents will be joining in for a relaxing, fun filled afternoon over a cup of tea or coffee for a meager gold coin donation.

Trevor McLeod and Steven Staines are the auctioneers this year.  The guest speaker is Chris Durdin who will talk about her experience with breast cancer.

The agenda for this year’s Big Arvo Tea is  Good Food, a Raffle, a White Elephant Auction and Great Company.

The committee of the Big Cuppa Tea  Katrina Hikl, Miriam Kammermann, and Kate McLeod express their thanks to the those community members who without their support this great social function and fundraiser could not take place:
