THIS IS ALSO A REMINDER THAT DRONES HAVE LIMITED FLIGHT AREAS WITHIN THE COOBER PEDY DISTRICT DUE TO THE AIRPORT FLIGHT PATH.

Drone Safety & Reporting Suspect Breaches

Currently, all aviation safety legislation relating to the commercial and hobby use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS – commonly referred to as a Drone) is contained within the Civil Aviation Safety Regulation Part 101 (CASR101). 

This legislation relates to safety breaches to humans & other aviation users (e.g. the RPAS pilot, other airspace users and members of the public).

The rules for flying an RPAS can be found at Drone rules | Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

Investigation of any suspected breaches of this federal legislation must be reported to & investigated by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

However, if an RPAS is causing an ‘immediate’ safety risk to other aircraft or members of the public, this can be reported to SAPOL by calling 131444.  It must also be noted that State Police (SAPOL) have limited authorities under Federal Aviation Legislation.
