Police have arrested a man and a woman and located three children safe and well after a stolen car was dumped and set on fire on the Strzelecki track in the State’s Far North.
Late yesterday afternoon, a police patrol located a man in company with a woman and three children in a stolen Holden Commodore about 100kms north of Lyndhurst.
The man set the stolen car alight and was aggressive towards police, throwing rocks at the police vehicle.
Unable to detain the man due to the remote and rough terrain, the police helicopter was called in to search for the two adults and three children.
A ground search continued this morning along with an aerial search using a plane from the Police Airwing.
Just before 7pm tonight, police located the group about 6km from where the Holden Commodore was dumped.
The man and woman are currently in custody and will be taken to Port Augusta police station later tonight where they are expected to face multiple charges including illegal use of a motor vehicle, threaten life and property damage.
Police believe the man and woman are known to each other.
The children will be taken to Leigh Creek Hospital for medical assessment.
