BODY OF A MAN FOUND AT INNAMINCKA

Police have identified the body of a man who is believed to have drowned in Coopers Creek at Innamincka in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Just after midnight, a 34-year-old man from Mandurah in Western Australia, was walking with a couple of friends, when he went for a swim in Coopers Creek and was swept into a drain under a culvert.

Friends were not able to rescue him.

His body was recovered just after 8am yesterday.

Police are preparing a report for the State Coroner.

Previously: Leigh Creek police are currently making their way to the far north township of Innamincka after the body of a man was found in Coopers Creek at about 8am this morning.

Just after midnight, a man, who was walking with a couple of friends, went for a swim in Coopers Creek and was swept into a drain under a culvert.

Friends were not able to rescue him.

It is not known at this time if the body is that of the man who went missing overnight.
