Police have arrested a 25-year old man from Coober Pedy and charged him with theft.

Police will allege the man walked into an opal mine and museum in Hutchison Street about 12.50pm on Saturday and helped himself to some jewellery before walking out the back door.

CCTV footage was reviewed and a description of the offender was obtained.

The following day, an observant police patrol spotted the alleged suspect in the same clothing.

He was arrested and will appear in Court at a later date.
