Update: Police have located a man’s body after he went missing in Coober Pedy yesterday.

Sadly before 10pm, last night the man was located deceased. The Coober Pedy Mine Rescue Squad will be retrieving the man’s body this morning.

Just before 3.30pm yesterday, police were called to an known as Olympic field about 5km west of Coober Pedy, after a friend reported the man missing.

The two men were allegedly ‘noodling’ in the area when he noticed the 41-year-old Coober Pedy man had disappeared.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious and will be preparing a report for the coroner.

Coober Pedy Mine Rescue Services and other services were required to meet at 8am this morning to coordinate their response to an incident yesterday afternoon where a man was reported to have fallen down a mine shaft approximately 5 km from Coober Pedy.

Coober Pedy Police and local emergency service crews spent until late Saturday searching a mine for the man who was reported missing in the afternoon.

Just before 3.30pm on Saturday, police were called to an opal mining field about 5km west of Coober Pedy, after a friend reported the man had gone missing.

The two men were allegedly ‘noodling’ in the area when he noticed the 41-year-old Coober Pedy man had disappeared.

Local SES Mine Rescue along with CFS and Ambulance crews will resume their operations today.
