Daniel Williams ropes his calf at the Marla Bronco Branding
The Marla Race Gymkhana Club was one of the winners at the recent SA Great Regional Awards held in Port Augusta.
The Club was recognised for their outstanding efforts in the hosting the Marla Bronco Branding, despite years of drought.
It was a great honour for a small Club from such a remote location to receive the Westpac Community Group Award for the Flinders/Outback region.
According to Club President, Mr. Alan Fennell of Lambina Station, the award is a great boost for the morale of the small Committee, especially as the Club is now hosting the National Bronco Branding Finals in 2009. “It’s a really big job to put on such as good event, and everyone always works hard. Getting an award like this proves that we’re doing a good job.”

This is such an excitement that the Marla Race Gymkana Club was one of the winners of the SA Great Awards this year 2008.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in this event and all the events right across the outback. We have always been proud that these unique Gymkanas, Bronco Brandings and Annual Race meets have stood the test of time and in particular that you all work so hard to support the Royal Flying Doctor through these activities for everyone who lives in the entire outback.
It is particularly pleasing that this recognition has come your way at last, highlighting the hardworking close knit region of South Australia’s hardy pioneering families.
Everyone does such a fine and professional job on these committees and in hosting and participating in these events along with your heavy work loads and many other concens.
Regards Margaret
