POLICE ASSISTANCE CALL CHANGES FOR REGIONAL SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Changes to the use of “000” and “131444” Police Assistance Telephone Lines in Regional Areas.

Commencing 1 July 2010 Far North Police Local Service Area will be no longer be receiving “000” Emergency or “131444”

Police Assistance calls made by members of the public at their local Police Stations.  This will bring Coober Pedy in line with the current operational process across the remainder of South Australia.

There has been a phased approach to this move with “131444” Police Assistance numbers having been re-directed to the SAPOL Call Centre based in Adelaide in recent months.

All “000” Emergency calls are now being answered by Police Communications Centre whereby Coober Pedy General Duties patrols will then be tasked.

The Officer in Charge of the Far North LSA Superintendent Blandford says “the receipt of all calls and the centralised location will enhance service delivery to the community and result in a more efficient use of resources.”

Members of public are reminded each telephone number has a specific role.  These being:

“000” telephone number is for emergency use only whereby immediate Police attendance is required.

“131444” Police Assistance telephone number is for non emergency situations whereby members of the public seek to report a matter or are seeking Police attendance.

The Coober Pedy Police Station, 86725056 should be used for general enquiries.

“The community should be reassured that they can still directly telephone their local police station during business hours for day to day issues however are urged to telephone Triple Zero in an emergency or 131 444 for police assistance,” Superintendent Blandford says.
