The excitement level is building in the iconic outback town of Coober Pedy as it gears up for this year’s Gem Trade Show.
The annual Coober Pedy Gem Trade Show will be held over two days, beginning on Friday 24th July, 2009 and concluding the following evening on Saturday 25th July 2009.
Held in the Greek Orthodox Community Hall, the Gem Trade Show will provide local sellers the opportunity to showcase their products to local, national and international buyers between 10am and 5pm Friday and 9am and 5pm Saturday.
TradeStart Export Advisor for the region, Phil Hart, has been busy attracting overseas buyers to the show.
Phil Hart said, “after the success of the inaugural show in 2008, when 12 international buyers flew in, we are hopeful that up to 20 buyers will attend the 2009 show.
With the help of the South Australian Government and Austrade International, seven Indian companies and four Chinese companies have already registered their intention to travel to Australia for the event”.
Mr Hart says the number of Chinese participants is expected to grow to ten before the 30 June registration cut off date.
The international visitors will arrive in Coober Pedy on Friday, 24 July and a dinner will be held that evening.
“Our visitors will be able to meet with the Gem Show exhibitors in a relaxed and informal atmosphere that hopefully will build strong, ongoing business relationships,” Mr Hart says.
The Chief Executive of the Department of Trade and Economic Development Brian Cunningham says: “The Gem Show presents an excellent opportunity for exhibitors to meet with international buyers, many of whom are new to the market.
“ We are hoping for strong representation and support from the industry to make the Gem Show a success, for exhibitors and buyers,” Mr Cunningham says.
Mr Yanni Athanasiadis, Chairperson of the Coober Pedy Gem Trade Show & Vice President, Coober Pedy Retail Business & Tourism Association said today, ” Successfully, the Gem Trade Show, together with Phil Hart and his department will once again bring buyers for the 2009 Gem Trade Show from overseas”.
The Coober Pedy Gem Trade Show continues to develop into one of the premier Trade Shows within Australia and the 2009 show promises to further add to the growing reputation of the region as the ‘Opal Capital of the World’.
