South Australian Police are investigating the drowning of a woman aged 29 whose body was discovered in the swimming pool at Coober Pedy Area School today at approximately 1.40 pm.
It is believed that ambulance officers attempting CPR were unable to revive the woman.
The Coober Pedy Area School swimming pool is also the community swimming pool and has an excellent safety record with responsible supervisors and life-guards, ongoing safety training programs along with voluteers and parental support.
It is the first incident which has ever occured at the pool and emotional support is being provided to those most closely effected.
This is tragedy for the town and it’s residents and indeed a shock for the immediate school community.
Members of the Coober Pedy community extend their deepest condolences to the family and anyone affected by this tragic event.
A report is being prepared for the State Coroner and an autopsy will be conducted.
Police have said the death is not being considered suspicious, but investigations will be continuing.
