District Council of Coober Pedy Community Engagement – Have Your Say!
At the Meeting of Council held on 27 May 2026, Council resolved to seek community engagement on the naming of a new road proposed to be opened as part of the Black Flag Opal Field Project.
The Black Flag Opal Field Project (information is available here) will enable new opal mining claims to be issued in Coober Pedy and prior to this occurring, the closure of the Old Stuart Highway and opening of a new road to access the Magazine located on Section 60 is required.
The Preliminary Plan below identifies the new road, Marked 1 and the road to be closed marked A through an agreement to exchange the land (under the Old Stuart Highway).
