34 inmates at Port Augusta Prison’s high security Bluebush division rioted on Thursday, protesting over conditions.
Police riot squad and Emergency services are on standby at the prison. The stand-off is said to be being negotiated by the Police Tactical Response Unit.
Yesterday afternoon inmates were on the prison roof with banners and other noise making implements.
No one has been reported injured and authorities were hopeful of a resolution.
Early this morning the reason for the riot had be undefined although recent lock-downs at the facility had been a cause of contention recently. Ambulance and Fire services were also on standby.
