Federal Senator, the Hon Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism will officially open Coober Pedy’s 36th Opal Festival on Saturday 14th June, 2025.
While visiting Coober Pedy Minister Farrell will meet with local businesses and the community. There will be 2 workshops/meet & greet events on the Sunday with Minister Farrell, local exporters and Coober Pedy Retail, Business and Tourism Association members.
Minister Farrell said, “Coober Pedy is an iconic South Australian destination and the Opal Festival is a wonderful opportunity to promote this unique attraction. I congratulate all those involved in putting on the Festival and look forward to seeing it flourish for years to come.”
In presenting the 36th Coober Pedy Opal Festival the Coober Pedy Retail, Business and Tourism Association thanks major sponsors South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC), Peak Mines, Energy Development Limited (EDL) Broken Hill Proprietry (BHP) and the District Council of Coober Pedy (DCCP, the many volunteers and local businesses who have united to bring a bigger and brighter Opal Festival in 2025.
As Coober Pedy transitions from Administration to Semi Autonomy the importance of this historic event is paramount.
With regional areas not having the constant exposure as our urban brothers this year’s theme is the ‘Heart of the Outback’ as Coober Pedy is not only unique as the opal capital of the world but its geographic centre places it as the heartbeat of the outback.
This pioneering town is the axis of the spirit of Australia producing over 80% of the world’s opal – the queen of gemstones.
