SA Unions welcome the wins for SA workers starting from today, including:
+ 3.75% Annual Wage Review pay rise
+ Cost-of-living bonus for every taxpayer
+ $300 energy bill relief for every household
+ Lift in the superannuation guarantee to 11.5 percent
+ Increase in paid parental leave to 22 weeks
+ Industrial Manslaughter (including jail time)
+ Ban of deadly engineered stone
The increase in wages from the Annual Wage Review along with the Albanese Government’s cost-of-living
tax bonus will mean that combined, a cleaner will take home an extra $44 per week. A forklift driver will
now take home an extra $46 per week. A community service worker will take home an extra $48 per week.
The Federal Government’s $300 energy relief rebate will also start to flow to households from 1 July in
four $75 quarterly credits. Employer super contributions increase from 11 per cent to 11.5 percent from 1
July, under Superannuation Guarantee, increases that unions campaigned for. The Superannuation
Members Council found that the Superannuation Guarantee increase would deliver a 30-year-old a
projected $17,570 more funds at retirement.
Unions also welcome the positive impact of the Federal Government’s new workplace laws, which
contributed to Australia experiencing the strongest annual wage growth since 2009, with wages finally
growing faster than inflation.
Industrial manslaughter is now a crime in South Australia, Employers found to breaching their health and
safety duty and it results in a worker’s death will now face a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment,
whilst an offence committed by a body corporate is a maximum of $18M.
Dale Beasley SA Union Secretary said, “Today’s a good day for working people. SA workers will receive a pay rise won by unions in addition to the Albanese government’s cost-of-living tax bonus. If you’re a cleaner, that means $44 more in your
pocket every week. This will make a real difference in the lives of SA workers and their families.”
“With wages finally growing faster than inflation, South Australian workers are experiencing the strongest
annual wage growth since 2009. This is a direct result of the new workplace laws we have tirelessly
campaigned for.”
“From today, bosses found to be cutting corners on safety resulting in a worker’s death will face up to 20
years jail time, and serious fines will apply to employers found to be manufacturing, installing or
improperly handling deadly engineered stone. These penalties are a clear message that worker safety is
paramount.”
