27 Jun 2024 About 9.30am on Thursday 27 June, police received reports of a light plane crash near Mulgathing, south-west of Coober Pedy.
The pilot and sole occupant of the light aircraft, a 22-year-old local man, sadly died in the crash.
The deceased pilot of the Cessna 172 was 22-year-old Adam Snell. The Cessna was used for mustering sheep at Mulgathing Station southwest of Coober Pedy.
Adam had been studying at Massey University School of Aviation since 2020 and studied Studied Aerospace at Saint Kentigern New Zealand in 2019.
Major Crash Investigators and Forensic Crime Scene officers attended the scene, along with officers from Far North Local Service Area.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will be investigating the incident.
Safework SA has been notified of the death and police will be preparing a report for the Coroner.
