25 Jun 2024 7:09am A woman has been arrested following a fatal crash at Kootaberra yesterday.
At about 2.50pm, Tuesday 25 June, police and emergency services were called to the Stuart Highway approximately 50 kilometres north of Port Augusta after reports a Volkswagen Tiguan had crashed into a tree.
The rear seated passenger of the VW, a 63-year-old man from Victoria sadly died at the scene.
The driver and two further occupants were taken to hospital with minor injuries and Major Crash Investigators attended the scene to examine the circumstances of the crash.
Following investigations, the driver of the vehicle a 61-year-old woman was arrested and has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
She has been refused bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court today.
The Stuart Highway was closed for several hours and reopened at 2.30am.
The man’s death is the 42nd life lost on SA roads this year.

At about 2.50pm on Monday 24 June, police were called to Stuart Highway approximately 50 kilometres north of Port Augusta after reports a car had crashed into a tree.
The Stuart Highway has been closed in both directions.
